norwegian design
Martin Evensen is a Norwegian designer and Entrepreneur. It’s not surprising that Evensen became a shoemaker. Both his grandfather and great grandfather were cobblers in Norway, where he grew up.
When Evensen went to San Francisco to study fashion and merchandising in school around 10 years ago, he held onto the craftsmanship and quality that he learned from his family, but decided to take a very different–and more sustainable–approach with both materials and production.
His idea evolved into New Movements, a classic contemporary lifestyle brand that launched last year with the first line of sneakers, Model NM.
To make exceptional sneakers, the best craftsmanship is needed at every step of the process. That's why we paired up with European suppliers and Portuguese shoemakers, to guarantee responsible and ethical production. We have been working with our factory and suppliers for almost two years to push innovation, develop custom components and perfect our first high-quality collection made out of waste. It took us 19 rounds of fit samples and design adjustments. From our designs to the pattern makers in the samples room to the craftsmen in the assembly lines who handmade the constructions with Italian machinery.
In shoe production, two-thirds of greenhouse gas emissions and generated during the shoe manufacturing process. New Movements sneakers are produced in Portugal where above 30% of electricity comes from renewable energy sources.
