Our vision is simple. Anything we create must live in harmony with the world we’re in.
Today, about 95% of almost 25 billion pairs of shoes produced every year end up in the world's landfills – a mass of waste that can’t be re-used because these shoes are simply not designed to be fully recyclable. And the greenhouse gases emitted to produce them are through the roof.
We can’t accept that’s just how it’s done. Not anymore.
We need new movements to replace old traditions that can no longer sustain us – or the planet. Through our work, we create a chic, timeless shoe, with sustainability designed into it – and waste designed out of it. The goal is for nothing to end up polluting nature.
Because sustainability needs to be the norm. Not the exception. And it starts with each one of us: when the responsibility gets personal, the impact becomes global.
We’re just one company. One movement toward a better world. When you walk a mile in these shoes, you take the movement forward. You make waves. And you inspire new movements.
Start your own.
Ocean Cleanup Program
823 320 plastic bottles
Empower x New Movements. Since launching New Movements in 2018 we have supported ocean clean-ups across the globe equal 823 320 plastic bottles. For every pair we make we support a clean-up of 2.5 kg (equivalent to 200 plastic bottles, 0.5 liter) with our partner Empower. Based on the idea of using new technology to enable a circular economy and create a cleaner and better world Empower was founded in January 2018. New Movements is proud to be Empowers very first partner and supporter.
Together with Empower we are building a global plastic waste ecosystem based on the same philosophy as the Norwegian bottle deposit system. By giving financial rewards in return for the deposit of plastic waste we can both stop leakage of plastic into the environment and cost-efficiently incentives collection of leaked waste. The use of Blockchain technology ensures both transparency and traceability throughout the value chain.
